Recent Precision Rule Changes

At the ISU Congress in Davos, Switzerland quite a few changes to the rules for precision team skating. Here is (as far as I know) a comprehensive list of these changes:
The age limits for ISU events
were changed, with effect
from the 1997-1998 season. The minimum age to compete in ISU Senior
Championships will become 15 on the 1st of July preceding the competition.
For junior competitions the new age limit will be 13 years or older but less
than 19 on the 1st July preceding the competition.
The minimum number of skaters allowable in a senior
team has been increased from 12 to 16. ( The permissible number of skaters
is now 16-24).
The maximum number of reserves has been decreased
from 6 to 4.
The regulations for the music for the long programme
(previously 3 distinct rhythms/styles) are now ' there shall be at least
one change of tempo in the music selected'.
In the Junior Short Programme separations are now
permitted in the circle, line and block. In the intersection free skating
moves are allowed except for back spirals.
The definition of the line for seniors has now been
rewritten: 'Any type or combination of single or double straight line(s)
that move in either a horizontal and/or longitudinal
direction is permitted. The line must progress with no
retrogression and must travel the full length of the ice
surface. At least one (1) change of hold and at least one (1)
step sequence is required. Jumps are not permitted.
Separations are permitted. Free skating moves (lunges,
spirals and Ina Bauers) are permitted.'
The definition of the circle for seniors has also been
rewritten: 'Any type or combination of a circle(s) is permitted. At least
one (1) change of hold and at least one (1) step sequence is
required. Jumps of no more than one half revolution and free
skating moves (lunges, spirals, Ina Bauers) are permitted.
Separations are permitted.
