The Short Programme

Please note that changes have been made to the requirements for the short programme. I am not sure, however, when these will come into effect. The changes can be found here.

The Short, or Technical Programme lasts 2 minutes forty seconds and must include the following elements, which should be carried out only once. No other elements can be included.

Circle

The circle manoeuvre must consist of only one circle revolving either clockwise, or counter-clockwise, or a combination of both directions. A minimum of two revolutions are required. There must be at least one change of hand hold unless otherwise stated. There shall be no separation except to change the hand hold. A minimum of two different types of footwork must be included and forward and backward skating must be used unless otherwise stated. Jumps of no more than one half revolution for the purpose of changing direction are permitted. Free skating moves (spirals, lunges, T-pots, bauers) are permitted.

Line

Lines should fully utilise the ice surface. The line shall go from end to end. There must be at least one change of hand hold unless otherwise stated. There shall be no separation except to change the hand hold. A minimum of two different types of footwork must be included unless otherwise stated. Jumps are not permitted. Free skating moves may be included.

Block

The number of lines in the block shall not exceed six and unless the number of skaters prevents it, shall not be less than four and the lines must be as close to equal as possible. Movement of the block must fully utilise the ice surface and at least two different axes must be used. A minimum of two different types of footwork must be included. There must be at least one change of hand hold unless otherwise stated. There shall be no separation except to change the hand hold. Jumps are not permitted. Free skating moves are not permitted.

Wheel

Any type of wheel (excluding the "egg beater") shall be included. A minimum of three revolutions are required. Any type or combination of hand holds is permitted unless otherwise stated. Variation of the wheel is permitted. Free skating moves are not permitted.

Intersecting Manoeuvre

Any type or combination of manoeuvres is permitted. The maximum number of intersections is three. The intersection may occur simultaneously or separately. Skaters may execute different movements during the intersection but highlighing of a skater(s) is not permitted. There are no required hand holds or footwork but any combination or variety may be used. Jumps are not permitted. Free skating moves are permitted during the intersecting move.
